Being a milspouse makes our hearts smile. We’ve have had the opportunity to do amazing things, expand our palates, live in other countries, meet incredible people, and cultivate friendships that have turned into family. It’s been a blessing.
The military spouse community is one that is large and diverse, but, unfortunately, at times the representation is not. If milspouses have nothing else, we have each other. Sadly, when we looked at how well mocha spouses are represented at the events that help navigate this military life, at the awards functions that honor us for our deeds, we weren’t there. And it’s hard to feel included in something where your likeness isn’t represented.
That’s how Mocha came to life.
Last year, the idea was formed to create a public space for military spouses of color. A place where we can share our issues and interests, and people like us can relate. A lot of times our needs and issues go unaddressed, not because people don’t care, but because they aren’t aware and/or they aren’t versed in how to address them. We want to bridge that gap.
We also want people to understand that Mocha isn’t an exclusive community. It’s not one that says you must be mocha to be included, we are inclusive of everyone! The only way to bridge the gap is to be inclusive, right? Plus, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
So please come join us on this journey of empowerment, understanding, and just a good girlfriend to girlfriend time. You won’t regret it.
